WEEK THIRTEEN
DESPITE WORST COACHING GRADE IN LEAGUE(79.5%), JOE EXPLODES TO HIS FULL POTENTIAL 166-90 OVER SCOTT!
The Juggernauts are peaking. But, is it too late? Four starters were in the 20's and McNabb(39) hurdled the competition. He needs a win and some help to carry this momentum into the playoffs.
The Schlagens got zero from his RB's again as their highest scorer(Watters-34) rode the bench. The playoffs won't happen for Scott this year. The Schalgens would like to thank the Brainsmashers for being the worst team in the league thus sparing Scott this dishonor.
DAVE CLINCHES FIRST ROUND BYE AS MARIANO FALLS 168-58!
The Deathknights just keep cruising in their quest for a second WWFFL championship. This week's starters had 4 in the twenties(Moulds, Rod Smith, Stover and Baltimore). Gannon(31) also continued his productive season. Dave now holds the season scoring record and will attempt to put it out of reach of future teams by piling on in Week 14.
The Pale Skins have continued their late season drop from playoff contention. Tampa Bay(20) and Shaun King(13) were the only Skins in double digits. Their receivers accounted for only 4 points! Maybe next year.
DEREK RIDES RB'S TO VICTORY OVER BOB 116-87
The Destroyers could have won this game with half of his team. The other 4 starters were in single digits. The rookie of the year candidate Jamal Lewis(38) led the way. A win in Week14 will assure Derek the 4th or 5th seed in the playoffs.
The Brainsmashers have run away and don't want to play anymore.
WAYNE TAKES OUT WARNER-LESS STARRS 142-57!
The Warriors rode a running corp that tied The Starrs starters by themselves(George-32, Taylor-25). That 5 way tie last week has turned into a 3 way tie(Wayne, Mike and Joe) for the final playoff spot, in the final week. But, Wayne has to face the 2nd highest scoring team in the league in Week 14.
The Starrs really need a QB. This week, one should return as Warner comes to visit me in Carolina. Faulk(5) had his most disappointing game of the season. Of course, Alstott(0) is not playing! Skip better find his groove for the playoffs or a early exit could be in his future. With a loss in Week 14, Skip could conceivably miss the playoffs entirely.
BRUCES LOWEST OUTPUT OF THE SEASON DOOMS HIM TO LOSS AGAINST MIKE 129-62!
The Bandits had two starters fail to score(Davis and Rison). Davis will be back this week. But, will that fracture affect his play and cause some fumbles(-3)? Toomer(17) was the highest scoring Bndit. Don't look for them to score this low again. They have clinched(realisticly) the Smokies Division and still have a shot at a first round bye.
Q POST LOW AS WELL AND DROPS ONE 83-53 AGAINST NATE!
The Knightmares left Mike Anderson(41) on the bench and still took this game by 30. Just as Nate's RB's are peaking. His season was snuffed out. Dillon(31) continued his amazing season and this team will have some intersting questions to answer in regards to keepers.
The Iguanas failed to get their lineup on time. We all know how that feels. No harm done if they can win Week 14. A win will give them a first round Bye and the second best record in the league. A loss could enable Bruce to steal the first round Bye.
WEEK TWELVE
WAYNE SHATTERS WEEKLY SCORING RECORD(184-WAYNE'98, DAVE'98) WITH 230-118 WIN OVER DEREK!
The Warriors had the showing of a lifetime! They not only won this game but outscored all other games(both teams!). Due to this unbelievable score, Wayne vaulted from 10th in scoring to 4th in a single week. It also kept their slim playoff hopes alive via a 5 way tie. If the season ended today The Warriors would claim the final wildcard slot. 14 touchdowns is probably some kind of record also. Notable scorers: Fred Taylor(63), Rob Johnson(42) and Eddie George(40).
The Destroyers still look good for a playoff spot. They currently hold the 2nd wildcard slot. They no longer have a shot at the Rockies title. Culpepper and Jamal Lewis led The Destroyers with 33 each. Four starters were in single digits even though he got 100% of his potential points. Despite having the 4th highest score in a lowscoring week, the luck of the draw handed Derek a resounding defeat.
DAVE CLINCHES RAVENLOFT DIVISION AS BOB FALLS 148-81!
The Deathknights only need to average 80 points a game(they are averaging 140!) to break the season scoring record(1837-Wayne'95). They were able to overcome the loss of Ricky Williams but had a subpar showing from RB's(Tiki - 16 and Emmitt -6). Gannon(32) and Rod Smith(30) compensated nicely.
The Brainsmashers are all but eliminated from playoff contention. Only the most farfetched scenarios offer the slightest hope of post season action. The king is dead, long live the king. It appears there will be no back-to-back for the winners of two of the last three championships.
MIKE LEAVES LOTS OF POINTS ON BENCH EN ROUTE TO WIN OVER NATE 111-93 WHO DOES THE SAME!
The Maelstroms reached 76% of their potential. Performance was very inconsistent with 4 players in single digits and two at 30+(Manning-30 and Robert Smith-38). Mike is also one of five teams tied for the final wildcard spot. Special teams were an especially weak spot this week. Christie(3) just got XP's and the Giants(7) continue their late season slide from contention.
The Knightmares were led by a Ram(Green-27) but it was a mere outstanding performance as opposed to the usual superhuman output at that position. Nate has not given up but is currently tied for the worst record in the league. It is possible that if Nate pops two off to end the season he could slip in at 6-8. However, this is not likely.
BRUCE POUNDS MARIANO SENSELESS 142-60!
The Bandits also are on pace to break the season scoring record. They need to average 116/game to do it(they are averaging(134). It probably will not matter though as Dave will have shattered it by then. Bruce is one step closer to taking the Smokies Title. The recently acquired Frerotte(39) filled in nicely. Only 2 starters were in single digits as he reached 100% of potential points.
The Skins had a pitiful showing as only one player managed to reach double digits(King-21). They have been eliminated from division contention and are yet another of the 5 teams currently tied for the final wildcard spot. When you score 60 points and it is over 80% of your potential, things are not looking good.
CONSISTENT PERFORMANCE LEADS Q OVER JOE 119-70!
The Iguanas were led by Cris Cater and Gonzales who both posted 24. The rest of his starters scored in the teens except for two that were in single digits. Larry has clinched the Rockies division and is currently eyeing a first-round playoff bye.
The Juggernauts had only 2 players in double digits(McNabb-32 and Edgarrin-20). He only reached 63.6% of his potential points. You guessed it . . . he is in the infamous, aforementioned 5 way tie . . . dare I say - it is TOO CLOSE TO CALL! :-)
SCOTT SLINKS BY SKIP WITH NO RB'S 91-90!
The Schlagens had a pair of 22's(Moss and Sharpe). Scott made the most out of very little getting all of his potential points. Obviously, he needed each and every one of them. I don't think there has ever been a team with zero points from RB's(bench included). Does not bode well for a team in a 5 way tie for the last playoff spot.
The Starrs continue their fall from greatness. They were led by a pair of 23's(Grbac and Faulk). Four other starters were in single digits. Skip had such a great start to the season that he could probablyy lose the rest of his games and still back into the playoffs on a three game losing streak. However, anything can happen in a league that has no streaks longer than 2(winning or losing).
WEEK ELEVEN
DEREK TIES LEAGUE HIGH FOR '00 AT MIKES EXPENSE 182-89!
The Destroyers are making a strong, late season run at the playoffs. They even still have an outside chance at winning the Rockies Division. Could be quite a game when they meet the Division leading Iguanas the final week of the season. All of their starters were in double digits this week. Daunte(44) got over last weeks 'speed bump' and New Orleans(33) continued their surprisingly successful season.
The Maelstroms are just about out of it. Another good week from Robert Smith(32) was not enough to make this even close. Wheatley(0) being inactivated for the game did not help things either. They are one of 5 Cellar Dweller teams currently in the WWFFL, any one of which is only a single game and maybe some luck away from the final playoff spot.
BRUCE DROPS BACK INTO TIE FOR SMOKIES LEAD WITH 123-107 LOSS TO SCOTT!
The Schlagens were led by two players who have had disappointing seasons. Brunell(32) and Watters(31) showed they still have a little left this week. Three of his players failed to reach double digits mirroring the inconsistent rookie season this team has had.
The Bandits suffered through their second lowest output of the season. Although 3 players were in the 20's, they could not overcome the Toomer(-1) that invaded the Receiving Corp(18). Week 13 is circled as the Division will be on the line against the Starrs.
JOE DISPLAYS EDGE(RRIN-31) OVER BOB 145-83!
The Juggernauts find themselves right in the thick of the wildcard hunt. Currently they are a tiebreaker away from the final spot. Four Juggernauts scored over 20. This squad actually had 3 QB's that were over 20 points(2 on the bench of course). Talk about depth!
The Brainsmashers are the lowest scoring team in the league and have the longest shot of anyone to sneak into the playoffs. They only managed to get 3 players in double digits and only garnered 69% of their potential points.
WAYNE IS GREEN(59) WITH ENVY AS HE FALLS 124-101 TO NATE!
The Knightmares didn't show much except for the aforementioned St. Louis backup QB. Only 3 players were in double digits. Garner(27) rode the bench but this one was over early anyway.
The Warriors had 4 players in single digits. They were led by Fred Taylor(27). The fact that he outscored the traded Terrell(16) meant nothing as this team continued it's league high 4 game slide.
DAVE LOSES RICKY(18) AND GAME TO LARRY 103-97!
The Iguanas only got 73% of their potential points. The most glaring benchwarmer was Garcia(37) who had another spectacular game. The win gives Larry the inside track on a first round bye.
The Deathknights the closest team to clinching their division and also look good for a playoff bye. This week they had a lackluster performance with 3 players in single digits. If Derrick Mason(21) leads your team in scoring, you might not win many games.
SKIP GETS BACK ON WINNING TRACK WITH 97-90 WIN OVER MARIANO!
The Starrs eeked out a win with out Faulk and Warner. You're not gonna win a lot if you don't break 100. Mccardell(24) was one of 3 players over 20 for the Starrs who are tied for the most hotly contested division in the league.
The Skins would have won if they had started Stokes(12) instead of Walls(0). This was a tough loss as it will now be near impossible to win the Ravenloft Division. Wildcard outlook is still good for the Skins. Curtis Martin(23) led Mariano in a losing effort.
WEEK TEN
MISSING SPECIAL TEAMS DOOM JUGGERNAUTS IN 157-134 LOSS TO DEATHKNIGHTS!
Dave returned to his winning ways as all but one player scored in double digits. Gannon(47) had a career game which was a double whammy since he played against Joes D. Joe got zero points from special teams(Hanosn and Kansas City). Everyone on Joes bench either scored zero or 26+.
NO QB SPELLS LOSS FOR SCOTT AS MARIANO WINS 115-100!
The Pale Skins had two players who failed to score points. However, 115 was enough to take down Scott. Mariano had 4 players with over 20 points each. He currently holds a wildcard spot. Scott currently holds the basement.
GREEN(35) LEADS NATE IN LOSING EFFORT AGAINST DEREK 126-101!
The Destroyers are clinging to the final wildcard slot. They are riding the crest of a league-high(unbelievably) winning streak of 2 games! The Knightmares are nearing statistical elimination.
LARRY'S RB'S(2) FAIL HIM IN LOSS TO BOB 97-95!
The Iguanas have lost Levens(0) for the year and have a 2 game division lead with 4 games left. The Brainsmashers kept their slim playoff hopes alive thanks mostly to Beurlein(23) and Tennessee(25) who scored over half of his points.
WAYNE THINKS HIMSELF OUT OF WIN, LOSES 126-119 TO MIKE!
The Warriors thought they made a waiver wire steal when they picked up George(7). However, they would have won by 1 point if he had stayed with Flutie(15). The Maelstroms are just one game out of a playoff spot while the Warriors are losing hope.
BANDITS TAKE FIRST PLACE FROM STARRS 173-112!
Bruce was led by Blake(40) and 3 other players with 26+. He may be peaking at the right time as the playoffs are just around the corner. Skip has dropped to second in the division and fourth in scoring. Will Faulk and Warner be back in time for the playoffs? Will The Starrs be in the playoffs to use them?
WEEK NINE
NATE KEEPS SLIM PLAYOFF HOPES ALIVE WITH 111-87 WIN OVER SCOTT!
The Knightmares managed only 15 points from their receivers. The Schlagens forgot their lineup again and now are tied for the worst record in the league.
MARIANO DROPS LEAGUE HIGH 3RD STRAIGHT LOSS!
In a league where a 3 game slide is the worst, there is some serious parity going on here. The Skins lost by just one point to the Destroyers 115-114! Derek and Mariano are both 4-5 and are clinging to the last two wildcard spots.
BRUCE WINS GAME OF THE WEEK 140-112 TO DAVE!
In a possible superbowl preview, the top two teams clashed this week. The Deathknights are very close to clinching the Ravenloft Division. The Bandits are in a fight to the death for the Smokies Crown.
STARRS GET BACK ON TRACK WITH 135-113 WIN OVER JUGGERNAUTS!
Faulk(46) led all scores but is now lost to Skip for a couple of weeks. Can he win without Warner and Faulk? Joe is just points away from the final playoff spot. Stay tuned!
MIKE WINS UGLY 86-76 OVER BOB!
Not much to brag about here. Manning(28) led the Maelstroms to this unimpressive victory. Beurlein(-2) didn't help the Brainsmashers at all.
GARCIA(31) CONTINUES TO MAKE 49ERS FORGET YOUNG!
Larry is very close to clinching the Rockies. Wayne is very close to missing the playoffs. The Iguanas had all but one player in double digits. The Warriors had 4 single digit players and managed a meager 15 points from his receivers.
WEEK EIGHT
IGUANAS SLINK BY MAELSTROMS 136-133!
For the second straight week, Mike lost a heartbreaker. Despite outstanding performances from Manning(37) and Wheatley(36) he is now tied for the worst record in the league. For the second week in a row, Jimmy Smith(2) came up lame. Hayes could have won it for Mike were he not humping splinters. The fact that he is 5th in the league in scoring is just the kind of irony we have come to expect from the hard-luck franchise. At least he has that one Championship in 1994 to reminisce about. Q also has ring to cherish. But his chances are much better to reach those heights again. Half of his team scored over 20 and Bruce(30) continued being a Ram.
SCHLAGENS EXPLODE, TAKE DOWN DESTROYERS 159-50!
Scott may be in the Ravenloft Dungeon, but he is only one game out of the final playoff spot. In fact, every team in the league is no more than 2 games away from the last wildcard entry with 6 games left in the regular season. Biakabatuka(31) led a team that had all but one player in the teens or higher. Derek only had half of his team show up as four players were in single digits. Daunte(33) was continuing bright spot for the inconsistent Destroyers team.
JOE GETS 4TH STRAIGHT WIN WITH VICTORY OVER BRUCE 156-121!
The Bandits remain in a tie for first place even though they could not ovecome a Juggernauts team that had triplets of 30's(Edgarrin-31, Lamar-38 and Marvin-34). Bruce is one of only 2 teams that have scored over a grand . . . the other team with over 1000 points is also his Week 9 opponent. I think that qualifies for game of the week! Even though it would not have changed the outcome of the game, Bruce has got to hate the fact he had Stewart(38) on the bench while he was shreading the tough Bucs D!
DILLON(50) MENTIONED IN SAME SENTENCE AS PAYTON, LEADS NATE OVER MARIANO 178-95!
The All TIme record for Yards Rushing in a game belongs to a Bengal . . . it just does not sound right! For the second straight week The Knightmare's have scored a season high. Connell(45) also had the game of his life as he streaked to 3 TD's. The Skins got a decent 61 points from 'his 4 Bucs'(to the tune of 'Three Blind Mice'). But, his four non-swashbucklers(including the Martian-20) mustered a mere 34 points. The Division is slipping away from the Palest of Skins.
WERE THE STARRS MERELY FLASHLIGHTS? DEATHKNIGHTS DOUBLE UP ON THE SKIPSTER 165-81!
Skip lost the mystically perfect Warner(8) for 3-6 games depending on who you talk to. The Smokies Division race is far from over. His non-Rams managed a meager 24 points(6.4 average). Dave is now sitting on a 3 game lead in the Ravenloft Division. Ricky's(45) sophmore season is suiting his dreadlocks just fine. Lots of 100 yard games in a row is a good thing. Daves team is now the team to beat.
BOB RELIVES '99 PLAYOFF VICTORY OVER WAYNE WITH 131-103 WIN!
George's(0) knee injury took away any chance the Warrirors had of extending their 3 game winning streak. Flutie(29) filled in nicely for the my injured Johnson(the preceeding joke was stolen from Nate). The Brainsmashers were led by Beurlein(35). The 30 points that Tennessee scored were especially painfull for the Titan's number one fan.
WEEK SEVEN
GARCIA(42) LEADS IGUANAS OVER KNIGHTMARES 162-130!
Even though Griese(34) was on Q's bench, he still reached 100% potential. Nate also met his full potential with a season high scoring output. He did not seem to miss his recently traded RB as his running corp came through with 58 points. Nevertheless, Larry now has a 2 game lead in his division and Nate has the dreaded 'worst record in the league' label.
DAVE PUTS ROOM BETWEEN HIM AND MARIANO 181-100!
The Deathknights now have a two game lead over the Pale Skins in the Ravenloft Division. For the second straight week Dave has posted scores of 180+. The Skins are still looking for someone to step up and fill the hole left by the injury to Staley. Curtis(40) continued his big year but Centers(8) is not going to get it done consistently. Dave now has the best record in the league and will try to hand the St. Louis Starrs their third straght loss in Week 8's Game of the Week.
BANDITS STEAL ONE FROM MAELSTROMS 129-127!
Mike seems to have a history of going into Monday Night with a 'sure win'. This time he was left high and dry as Jimmy Smith(1) went out with an injury after one catch. Despite being 5th in the league in scoring, he resides in the familiar confines of the Smokies basement(home sweet home). Bruce moved into a tie with the strangely slumping Starrs. He did not have any one player staqnd out. All but one of his players were in double digits and two were at 20+. For the second week in a row a team has passed Skip in the points standings. This time it was Bruce.
WARRIORS SEND STARRS TO SECOND STRAIGHT LOSS 168-83!
Skip felt a pain that probably all of us can relate too. Nothing is more frustrating then leaving points on your bench. Especially when you know that player does not belong there. In this case however, Skip would have had his first non-St. Louis bye week loss anyway. Unless he was planning on benching McCardell the season high score for Wayne would have been just enough to get the job done. Frankly, 83 points from 5 players who are mostly Starr bench warmers show this team has some depth as well. He got 48 points from the Harbaugh-Conway connection. Wayne was led by George(35) and only had one player in single digits. The Warriors have now won 3 games in a row and have inched their way back into the playoff hunt.
JOE WINS SECOND STRAIGHT CELLAR BATTLE - THIS TIME AGAINST SCOTT 108-58!
The Juggernauts have drawn the lowliest of opponents the last two weeks. Like a veteran fantasy player should, he took them to school. Edgarrin silenced his critics(I could not believe my ears as pregame show trasehed Edgarrin - 50! huh? shutup!). This is the 3rd straight victory as his team is showing some signs of making one of his patented comebacks. See, people who have played this game for awhile know that eveyrone is still in it at mid-season(yes, even Nate who has engineered some impressive comebacks himself. Newcomer Schlagens are learning that the WWFFL is a very competitive league. Quality free agents are hard to come by especially if you have a good record. The Schlagens team had what can only be called a complete collapse as only two players were in double digits(Troy Brown - 11, Moss - 11). After christening their induction to the WWFFL with an impressive 140 points, they have really slipped. Their scoring output has dropped significantly in each of the last 3 weeks.
DEREK TAKES OUT BOB TO STAY 2 OUT DIVISION LEAD 102-93!
Either one of the teams could have won this game. The Brainsmashers took a hit to their chances to repeat as champs. These two teams better put some wins together or Q is going to run away with this division. He only has one win less than the other 3 owners in his lowly Rockies Division combined! The Destroyers were led by Daunte(29) again and overcame the fact that his running corp was ouscored by 20 points.
WEEK SIX
DAVE CRUISES TO 181-147 WIN OVER DEREK!
The Deathknights have taken over the points lead from Skip who has held it all year. He is now tied for the best record in the league and is riding a league-high 5 game winning streak. Dave was led by Gannon(44). He also had 2 - 30's and 2 - 20's. It didn't even matter that Moulds(8) and Smith(9) had subpar games. Derek has the ironic honor of scoring well(his highest all year) and still losing by 45 points. Culpepper(34) shined on Monday Night but the Destroyer continued their four game slide.
GEORGE(36) LEADS WARRIORS OVER SCHLAGENS 167-97!
Well, Scott had his lowest score of the year and Wayne had his highest. The Warrior receivers have been a disappointment all year. But, this week they produced 78 points including 5 TD's. Aided by the pumped up wide outs, Wayne leapfrogged 4 teams into 8th place in the points rankings. Scott could not overcome Brunell's(5) bonehead performance or the other 2 starters that were in single digits. Moss(22) proved he was dangerous, even against the intimidating Bucs D.
BRUCE IS PERFECT AGAIN IN 148-106 WIN!
For the second week in a row, The Bandits got 100% of potential points. They were led by the NFL's version of the prodigal son, Owens(34). He moved to within one game of the lead in the Smokies. The Bandits are also one of only 3 teams with 800+ points. Although the Brainsmashers have won 2 of the last 3 league championships, they never stood a chance in this one. Beuerlein(28) continued his middle age resurgence. But the Bandits had too many weapons. Bob is now tied with Derek for a dubious distinction . . . longest losing streak(4).
MAELSTROMS DROP TO CELLAR WITH 117-109 LOSS TO SKINS!
Mariano continues his remarkable turnaround from '99. Mike continues his perrenial struggles in the WWFFL. It was a close game and as you may suspect, Mike could have won if he had started Jacquez(19) or Hayes(19) instead of his hometown favorite Johnson(1). Never pick with your heart! The Skins were led by the Bucs(King-25 and Tampa Bay-31) even though they lost. They took a big hit this week with the loss of Duce Staley for the season(foot).
NATE WINS BATTLE OF THE BASEMENTS OVER JOE BY THE TINYEST OF MARGINS 102-101!
With this victory Nate moved into a 3-way tie for second in the Rockies. The Knightmares were led by the diminutive Garner(21). This one could easily have gone either way. Both teams left lots of points on the bench. Two of the Leagues oldest franchises are struggling to be competitive. History has shown that both of these franchises have overcome slow starts before. Will they be able to do it in the year of The Rams?
IGUANAS THANK THEIR LUCKY STARRS AS THE SCHEDULING GODS GIVE THEM 109-69 VICTORY!
Without the Rams Skip's team looked downright bad! They were barely able to avoid tieing the lowest score of the year by 4 points. The only Starr that was luminescent was Miami(32). They had 6 players in single digits including 2 zeroes. Well, the Rams are rested and ready for Week 7 and the division-rival Warriors(Hey, who made this schedule anyway?). Larry continues to lead the lackluster Rockies division as he is the only team at .500 or better. Griese(33) had a great day but Garcia(44) was even more spectacular on the bench.
WEEK FIVE
BANDITS REACH POTENTIAL, ROLL OVER IGUANAS 174-118!
Bruce was one of 3 teams that accomplished the rare feat of getting 100% of potential points to translate into Fantasy Points! McKnown(36) was the leader with Five 20's joining the Bandits lineup. Kicker and 3rd Receiver were the only weak spots. Larry was led by . . . uhhhhh . . . a Ram!(Bruce-33). Despite the loss he was able to maintain a one game lead in the weak(8-12) Rockies Division. Things look god for Larry next week as he draws the St. Louis-filled Starrs(bye Week).
SAME HEADLINE - DIFFERENT WEEK - SKIP WINS BIG OVER (INSERT OPPONENT HERE)!
The Starrs won 181-108 and beat The Brainsmashers whole team with . . . uhhhhh . . . 4 Ram's! Oh yes, and Skip scored 100% of his potential points. Bob got only 16 points from his running backs. Now, Rhett is out for the year . . . that will hurt his depth. He stayed in a tie for second in the Rockies . . . no plate techtonics going on here . . . the Rockies show no movement except sinking as entire Divison lost this week.
DAVE TAKES FIRST IN RAVENLOFT WITH WIN OVER NATE 165-114!
The Deathknights got great support from their Special Teams(Defense-32 and Stover-21). Although Fiedler(23) fell short against Favre(34), Rod Smith(23) scored as much as The Knightmares entire Receivers output. The Swami seems to have turned it around on the Picks(still a ways to .500 though). Nate draws the other 1-4 team next week in what can only be called . . . the Toilet Bowl! Get DSS - you may want to channel surf on this one.
JOE GETS FIRST 'W' OVER DEREK 123-115!
Culpepper(33) continued his great season. But it was the Destroyers receivers who really let him down. On a bad week Harrison(15) more than twice what the Destroyers receiving Corp could muster. The Juggernauts had great special teams output(Wilkins-32 and Jacksonville-24). The Juggernauts left a whole lot of points on the bench. The Destroyers got 100% of his potential points. But, in this case that is not a good thing(his entire bench scored 1 point). Granted he had a lot of byes.
WATTERS(16) PULLS IT OUT ON MONDAY NIGHT FOR SCOTT AS MIKE FALLS 113-103!
The Schlagens got what they were looking for when they drafted Moss(39) - 3TD's this week. The Maelstroms lienup was very inconsistent with 3 players scoring 20 or more and 5 in single digits. When you get 15 points out of your Receivers and start an injured kicker(nice FA pickup!), you are not gonna win many. The Schlagens could have scored another 51 points with 3 lineup changes.
CELLAR-DWELLER WAYNE BACKS UP PREGAME TRASH TALK WITH 122-92 VICTORY OVER MARIANO!
The Warriors are still in the basement and firmly placed last in the scoring rankings. But, at least they can celebrate for one week. Rob Johnson(35) continues to impress. This week his rushing(5-41) really pulled up his points. Still it was a very inconsistent showing with 3 players over 20 and 4 in single digits. Terrell Davis continues to disappoint. The Pale Skins only got 11 points from their RB's. Next week Curtis Martin is back to help, but Duce is probably out.
WEEK FOUR
STARRS WIN HEARTBREAKER OVER BANDITS 139-138!
Skip continued his winning ways this week. When you have the number one scorer in three different positions. You are going to win a lot. Still Bruce must have been crushed! The 'what if?' game can drive you crazy. What if I had started McKnown(23) instead of Chandler(14)? What if I had started Derrick Alexander(12) instead of New Hire Darrell Jackson(10) or eve Crowell(11)? Well, the answer to all of these questions is . . . you would be tied for first in the Smokies division!
JUGGERNAUTS STILL LOSERS . . . THIS TIME TO THE DEATHKNIGHTS 139-118!
Just like in the Starrs/Bandits game, we have a bench full of potential on the losing teams bench. With a little more 'sixth sense' Joe could have scored 151 and finally become the last team to taste a win in 2000. OF course, in his defense, The Warriors have scored even less points than his team. Dave is still right in the thick of it thanks to Baltimore(36) vs a pitiful Bengals team(their RB actually refused to run because he was getting pounded so bad).
THE MAELSTROMS USE MANNING(42) MONDAY NIGHT TO PILE ON WARRIORS 151-87!
And you thought Free Agency would change the game! This is the first victory Mike has ever had(unofficially) over his Division Rival. Wayne continues his sink to the bottom of every meaningfull statistic. Can Terrell Save his season? Or is it too late? Stranger things have happened but he is the only team averaging less than 100 points a game - OUCH! Five Warrior starters scored 9 or less points. Jimmy Smith(29) came back from what must have been a concussion to nab his second TD of the night.
GARNER(42) LEADS NATE OVER DEREK 122-107!
The Knightmares had 8 players score 20 or more(including bench). The Destroyers got good production from his RB's as Bettis(20) and Jamal Lewis(23) scored well. His team appears to have zero depth since his bench scored 12 points. Favre(21) had his first good week for Nate and Taylor(7) was back on the field . . . if only for half a game.
IGUANAS PUMMEL BRAINSMASHERS 161-65!
Garcia(45) led Larry to victory as Bob was outscored by almost 100 points! Larry got his share of the St. Louis connection. Bruce(29) and St. Louis(36) matched Bobs entire starting lineup. Bob did not have a single player score more than 17 points(including bench). The loss dropped Bob into a tie for second.
WEEK THREE
STARRS REMAIN LAST UNDEFEATED TEAM WITH WIN OVER DEREK 165-104!
Skip just keep rolling along! Once again his St. Louis players(Warner-26 and Faulk-48) have impressive showings. He is on pace to shatter the WWFFL scoring record by over 300 points! He has sole possession of first place in the Smokies Division. The Destroyers fell into a 3-way tie for first in the Rockies Division despite the continued success of Daunte(28) and Denver(32). An injured Kicker(Conway-0) and an RB corp that scored 15 points doomed him.
MARIANO RIDES BUCS OVER BOB 135-118!
The Pale Skins squeezed every point out of their team. Scoring 135 out of a possible 135 points(nice coaching!). His receiving managed a measly 22 points. But, 58 hometown points(KIng-25 and Tampa-33) made up the difference. The Brainsmashers were led by the other Faulk(Kevin-28) and no doubt were pleased to see Jamal(18) looking like his old self(albeit on the bench).
POOR COACHING DOOMS KNIGHMARES!
Nate(The Swami) had enough points to win this game. However, 51 points were left on the bench. Favre(0) continues to plague this team! Fred Taylor's impending return may be just the cavalry that Nate needs to notch his first W of the 2000 season. Bruce was led by his Keeper RB(Davis-35) and Philadelphia(34). He left a few points on the bench as well.
RECEIVERS DOOM SCHLAGENS!
Scott only managed to get 15 points out of his receivers. Larry put him down 116-103. His superior recivers made up for his weak RB's(Allen-6, Holmes-5). Dorsey is back and should provide a welcome boost there. The Iguanas had an inconsistent lineup with 3 - 20's and 3 - single digits. Scott dropped a game out of the Division lead in Ravenloft.
DEATHKNIGHTS WIN GAME - LOSE 2 RECEIVERS!
The Maelstroms lost the game 114-99. But Dave may have lost more. Both Engram and Dyson are out for the season. Qadry was already on the injury list. Mike's team appeared listless without the steady Manning(BYE) to lead the way. The loss dropped Mike into the Smokies cellar to keep Wayne company. Dave's victory kept him in a tie for first in the Ravenloft division.
WWARRIORS LUCK OUT WITH 81-69 VICTORY OVER JUGGERNAUTS!
Wayne earned his first victory of the 2000 season . . . no thanks to his coaching skills. His highest scoring player(Tim Brown-25) was left on the bench in favor of Price(-1)! Fortunately for him, he was playing Joe who had the lowest score of the season so far. In fairness to Joe, all 3 of his Keepers were on a bye. Next week he will be full force when he takes on his arch rival - the Deathknights. Joe has been known to string together impressive winning streaks at times. He better do it soon as he is still waiting for his first victory in 2000.
WEEK TWO
SMITH(51) LEADS MIKE TO FIRST WIN 175-117 OVER JOE!
The Juggernauts bench outscored all but 2 teams' starters this week. Two players scored over 20 and two over 30 while collecting splinters on the bench! The Maelstroms had all but one starter in double digits. However, he also left two 20+ scorers on the bench. Next week could be rough for both of these teams. Elam is out for awhile and Edgarrin and Manning are on byes.
IGUANAS TURN IT AROUND WITH 162-118 VICTORY OVER SKINS!
Larry had low score (dis)honors last week. This week he regained the form that led him to the 1998 championship. Two 20+ and two 30+ starters are going to spell victory most of the time. Mariano fell back down to earth after high score honors in Week One. Four of his starters failed to achieve double digits. Tampa accounted for more then half of his points(King-25 and Tampa Bay-43). The satisfaction that may have been gained by picking up Larry's scraps(Walls-19) must have seemed empty with a loss.
SCHLAGENS TASTE FIRST LOSS VIA BRAINSMASHERS 139-125!
Beurlein(37) continued to silence critics with his outstanding production. Only one of Bob's starters failed to reach double digits. Scott's team had a very inconsistent performance with 3 scoring 20+ and 2 in single digits. The win kept Bob in a tie first place in the Rockies. The loss dropped Scott into a tie for first in the Ravenloft division.
ST LOUIS WINS ANOTHER ONE FOR STARRS OVER NATE 141-110!
Skip is the only team with sole possesion of first place in his division. He also has the highest scoring team in the league averaging over 150 points/game. Nate is the complete opposite. Last place and lowest scorer. That could change quickly if Dillon(10) gets on track and Fred Taylor actually plays a game.
DAVE WINS BATTLE OF NO-SHOW RB'S OVER WAYNE 138-121!
Both of these teams are still waiting for any real production from their keeper RB's. The Dethknights have gotten precious little out of Emmitt(6). The Warriors have gotten even less from Terrell(0). Both teams were led by their QB's. Gannon(35) rushe for a Daunte-ish 3 rushing TD's. Johnson(33) actually finished a game! The loss dropped Wayne to the basement for the first time in recent memory. Dave's victory helped him keep pace with Mariano and Scott for a share of first place.
HORN(29) LEADS DEREK OVER BRUCE 118-86!
The Destroyers stay in first place despite a pittiful running game(10 points total). It was an inconsistent performance with 3 players in the 20's and 4 in single digits. The Bandits got a wake-up call as the slipped into a tie for 2nd in the Smokie division after a scorching week one. His performance was at least consistent. 6 of 8 players were in double digits, none of which manged 20.
WEEK ONE
MIAMI(42) AND FAULK(41) LEAD SKIP PAST MIKE 163-120!
Historically, 120 points is going to equal a win most of the time. However, The Maelstroms could not overcome the Monday Night St. Louis connection(The Starrs had 46 points worth of Rams on the bench alone!). Even though Robert Smith and Washington both posted 21 points each, it was not enough.
PALE SKINS PUMMEL JUGGERNAUTS 170-108!
The worst team in the league last year had the highest score in week one. Mariano was led to victory by 2 RB's that were not kept from last year(Martin - 36 and Staley - 49). Hmmm, I wonder if Joe misses the Duce??? Edgarrin(34) appeared immune to the sophomore jinx and led Joe in scoring. Joe also has the dubious distinction of the highest scoring bench in week one(104).
THE BANDITS MC-WOW THE WARRIORS 160-105!
McNown(53) ripped the Vikings Defense in a losing effort(who cares??? This is Fantasy Football!). Stephen Davis(31) began earning his new contract and Bruces beloved Philadelphia(29) subdued a Cowboys team far from their glory years. Wayne's team was downright unimpressive and was led by Rob Johnson(27) in a losing effort. Four of his players failed to even reach double-digits.
NEWCOMER SCHALEGENS TAKE DOWN DEATHKNIGHTS 140-122!
Oakland's(33) Smothering defense led Scott to his first WWFFL victory. All of his starters were in double-digits and 3 scored 20 or more. Dave was also led by his defense(Baltimore - 24). He has the highest losing score for week one and only two starters failed to reach double digits.
BRAINSMASHERS BEGIN TITLE DEFENSE WITH 119-91 WIN OVER KNIGHTMARES!
Bob's team showed great consistency as all starters scored in double digits. The luck that his team rode for last years championship continued as they had the lowest wining score for week one. They were led by young David Boston(29). Nate's only bright spots were special teams. Gary Anderson(22) and Indianapolis(22) accounted for nearly half of his points. Of his six other starters, four of the failed to reach double digits. Favre(11) picked up where he left off last year.
IGUANAS POST WEEKS LOW SCORE, LOSE TO DESTROYERS 118-75!
Culpepper's(36) 3 runshing TD's capped an impressive debut for the Vikings QB. Other that Denver(27) the rest of Dereks team did not show much. Larry's only bright spot was St. Louis(20) unless you count Garcia(31) who was on the bench(we don't). This gives Larry the coveted week one first pick in the Free Agent market. He has shown in the past a knack for picking diamonds out of the rough. Let's see if he can salvage this season.

First off -
Congratulations to the 1999 WWFFL Champions BOBS BRAINSMASHERS! Sure, it is hardly debatable that this was the weakest team ever to win the WWFFL crown. This time last year he was not even in the league. He didn't even draft his own team(your welcome, Bob). Talk about a longshot! Of course, he did make some moves that helped him eke out an unprecepented second ring. But, none of that matters when you are the champion(a feeling I vaguely remember). OK guys, don't forget that you must declare your keepers(up to 3) or they will become free agents. The deadline to do this is July 16, 2000. The other important date to remember is : SUNDAY AUGUST 27TH AT 4PM EST is draft day!!! IMPORTANT NOTE: The WWFFL is going to continue it's transition to a Keeper league. The idea is to add 1 to the number of keepers allowed each year. This means that this time next year you will be allowed up to four keepers. Better get four good ones! Good Luck! The Commish |
